Sergio Sarra was born in Pescara in 1961, lives and works in Abruzzo.
From 1983 to1988 was a student at the Academy of Fine Art in Bologna.
In 1989 he invited to the Mediterranean Biennal at the Macba of Barcelona and in 90 to the Expace Cartier in Paris; that same year he held his first solo exhibition at Alice art gallery in Rome, presenting an installation made up of four long glass panels lit by the white light of industrial neon.
In 1993 he partecipated at the Venice Biennale in the Aperto section and in the exhibition “De Europa” in the Museum of Modern Art of Athens, both curated by Achille Bonito Oliva.
In 1997 he founded the aperiodic magazine Orlo edited by Zerynthia and partecipates in exhibition
“Sign, Sound, Sacred, Sense” curated by Lorenzo Benedetti, “Odisseus” and “FuoriUso” curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio.
In 2000 Sarra exhibited in Rome at Volume! Foundation and care “Conversione di Saulo” at Palazzo Odescalchi also in Rome, and is invited at the Havana Biennal in the Exhibition “Window onto Venus”.
In the same year he married Elisabetta Ruscitti in Amalfi and the couple moved to Naples where Sarra opened his studio, here he conceived his Table Sculptures as well as several performances, among which “D. dal Vero n.1″, presented at Palermo’s Micromuseum (2004) and at Bucharest’s MNAC and “Trave Excercise” product by Zerinthya in Paliano.
In the following years he exhibited in the cities of Porto, Florence, Rome, Milan, Lisbon and partecipated in numerous group show including “Altered States” curated by Nicolas Bourriaud and Paolo Falcone at WAX in Budapest and “Cose mai viste” curated by Achille Bonito Oliva at the Terme of Diocleziano in Rome.
In 2011 he was invited to the Italian Pavillon at the Venice Biennale and betwen 2012 and 2013 develops projects “Monsuno, episode I and II” at Pio Monti gallery and Garage Carcani and “un ambiente, sei vetri” at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Together with the young architects of StudioZero85 designs and builds his new study-house in Abruzzo, who in 2014 received an honorable mention at Fritz Hoger Preis in Berlin and is named among the finalist at the Wienenberger Award in Vienna.
